Twins (60-60) vs Rangers (53-66)

Playoff hopes have all but faded away, but a series sweep against the lowly Rangers here would at least keep some momentum going before a tough stretch against Central division teams at the end of the month.

Oh and the Twins have a new motto for the year, "We Stink", which is a play off of last years famous saying of "Smell Em", but also a reflection on how bad they've been lately. Hopefully it will give them the chip on the shoulder they need to play better baseball and put some fun back into the game.

Nice. Lofton is gone, and Sosa has been seeing a lot more bench in favor of youngsters. The Rangers are awful.

Morneau needs to bust out of his slump against Texas' weak pitching staff, eh?

He, more than anyone else, I think. I just want him to reach 30 HR soon so I can forget about it.

Well, for the sake of my Fantasy team (and for the Twins) I hope that Hunter and Cuddyer also kill that horrible pitching staff. Kason Gabbard beware!!

17 strikeouts in 8 innings. Wow.

Twins win 1-0.

Twins the series 2-1, after only scoring 3 total runs and giving up 6.

Santana's brilliance yesterday was clouded only by the fact that his team gave him only a minimal chance to win that game. Once again, Santana has to do it – very nearly – all by himself. There is absolutely no excuse for this. How embarrassing when you've got the '87 WS alumni gathered to witness the offensive futility. And yet we're still within striking distance in the AL Central. I don't get it.

I don't even care about the offense after a performance like that one. He was so completely unhitable it was sick. Sosa was the only one that didn't look completely foolish.

Gleeman has a bunch of great info on the performance by Johan

-Santana struck out every Rangers hitter at least once
-a pitcher has totaled more than 17 strikeouts just 20 times and only Randy Johnson has racked up more strikeouts (18) without throwing at least nine innings
-Thanks to Baseball-Reference.com, we know that Santana's Game Score of 95 is the highest in baseball history for someone who didn't throw at least nine innings
